What is a 'narrative lectionary'?
The Narrative Lectionary is a set of readings that works through the story of God’s people, from Creation through the early Christian church. This year’s lectionary begins on September 11, 2011, and ends on May 27, 2012. These Scripture readings will be used in worship through this school year.
We look forward to walking through God's word and His story with you!
All children are given the supplies to create a take-home reminder to dig into God's word each week. These small tins contain the lesson and readings for each week, with a small checklist:
- Found it!
- Heard it!
- Lived it!
We encourage families to check the found it box, when your child finds the week's Bible verse(s) in a Bible. Check the heard it box, when you've listened to the story ~ in worship, in a sermon or children's message, or at home. And most importantly, check the lived it box when you've put it into action! We'll provide suggestions here each week. If you have a great idea, please share it, and we'll post your ideas too!
November 13 ~ Hosea ~ Hosea 6:1-6; 11:1-9
- Find the book of Hosea in a Bible and talk about what section it is in. (Hosea is the first of the books of the minor prophets.)
- Chapter 11 is subtitled 'God's Compassion Despite Israel's Ingratitude'. During this month of Thanksgiving, talk about times when family members show thankfulness and when they seem ungrateful. Remind them how much you love one another, regardless of behavior. Invite questions and conversation about how much God loves us. How can your family show thanksgiving to God this month?
- Memorize these verses: For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. (6:6) I led them with cords of human kindness, with bands of love. I was to them like those who lift infants to their cheeks. I bent down to them and fed them. (11:4)
- Can you find out what the name 'Hosea' means?
